WHAT THE FIREFIGHTER'S UNION DOES FOR OTHERS:

**If you are new to the Provo Fire Department and are wondering why you should join the union,
please
click here, as well as read the information below.

Many are much more unfortunate than we are, and as firefighters and paramedics, we come
across these people every day.  That is why we love doing what we do for our job, is to help others
in need. However, sometimes, needs don't warrant a 9-1-1 call but rather the compassion of
many caring individuals and those are the calls we love to answer.

One way we've found to help others is through donating time and money to many charities that
help those suffering from medical conditions, or whose lives have changed as a result of a fire.
Two of the biggest charities we support are MDA and the Burn Kids Camp.  We have also done a
lot of work to contribute to the Amercian Cancer Society directly.

Muscular Dystrophy Association

Firefighters are well known for their support of MDA.  From our "Fill the Boot" campaigns to other
donations given, we have a long standing support of MDA.

For the year 2009, "Fill the Boot Campaign" Provo ranked in the top 100 (# 81) in the NATION for
fundraising for MDA!

Our Point of Contact for MDA is:

Friends of the Children's Justice Center

The Children's Justice Center is a homelike facility which serves children and families who are
experiencing the crisis and chaos that comes with the disclosure of significant physical or sexual
abuse of a child.

The Center is designed to help children feel safe and comfortable so that they may begin to deal
with the difficult and often frightening issues that surround abuse. The focus and function of the
Children's Justice Center is to reduce the trauma of the child abuse investigation and help the
child feel safe to reveal the truth.

On October 8th, 2009 there was a Live Auction at the Provo City Library to help raise funds for the
CJC.  Some of our Union Members helped out at the auction by showing the items up for sale
while wearing their firefighter Class "A" uniform.  Thank you to our Union Members Mark Ostler,
Dan Cather, and Ryan Lind for helping out!  They got to meet Utah State Attorney General Mark
Shurtleff at this auction as well.
