6 February 2012 - Fire Caucus Luncheon @ The State Capitol Building. Attended by Pres.
Finlison, Sec. Wassom, & Jeremy Millet. Met with legislator's to discuss political issues
important to firefighters.
31 January 2012 - Local 593 Union Meeting @ St. 23
23-27 January 2012 - IAFF-ALTS conference in Orlando, FL attended by Pres.Finlison &
Sec.Wassom.
28 September 2011 - Created our first mission statement ever. In the 73 years history of
25 September 2011 - We launched our Twitter page - @Local593, and also created a
brand new and more interactive Facebook Page. We had a Facebook group, but groups
are more restrictive, so the new page allows people to "like" and follow us better!
24 September 2011 - PFFU President's Forum; officer training in South Salt Lake.
Attended by Local President and Secretary.
31 August 2011 - Out raising money in the streets for MDA.
1 August 2011 - Our sister city, Springville, had a very close call when the mother of a
choking toddler was luckily able to remove an airway obstruction before things got too
serious. She found out during this situation that Springville has not had full-time EMS.
Because of this, and some new money in their budget, Springville will be adding more
full-time employees in March of 2012 to provide better medical care to it's citizens. It's
times like this that we realize our Public Safety Department is not a good resource to cut
during financial hardships. See this article online HERE.
28 June 2011 - Most recently, our members have all become trained in ARFF firefighting
with the addition the Provo Airport has received by Frontier Airlines by their daily flights. We
are very excited for this opportunity!
12 June 2011 - Pink Heals fire engine arrived and staged at Sam's Club in Provo, UT for 6
hours. We were out selling T-shirts in order to raise money to fight Breast Cancer. The
Pink Heals Tour is amazing, and we appreciate them stopping by Provo. We plan on
seeing them again in October! Check out their website at http://www.PinkFireTrucks.org

14 March 2011 - Boulder's Fire with 2 fatalities.
